Hi folks!

I tried to write a poll for this, but the questions I have are... not conducive to polls, really? So here - this is me asking for your thoughts and ideas about how this challenge went, and how you feel about possibly doing it next year, and what we can do to help more people reach the finish line. So, here are some questions, if you have time to give some feedback!

Did you finish?
If not (many didn't, don't beat yourselves up - that's one of the reasons we didn't want to make a high pressure challenge), can you let us know if there was anything we could have done to help you out? If it was just life, no big deal - it happens to all of us. I'm just looking for things we could do better to help out our authors. I'm thinking cheerleading, check-ins, more accountability... things of that nature.
How did you like sign-ups? Anything on that front?
How about the timeline? Too long to write? Too long for sign-ups? Should we allow stories to be posted as soon as they're written, instead of waiting to have a bunch on opening day? We didn't have that many on the first day, so that sort of big bang feeling didn't really come across.
Do you think you'll sign up next year? Does it depend on possible rule changes? Other things?

We had great enthusiasm during sign-ups - I'd love to carry that over to the finish line, so any thoughts you have about the timeline, the process, anything, please let us know. And thank you - this was just a little crazy idea me and meansgirl cooked up in my living room, and we'd love to make it even more successful next year.

Congratulations, everyone who posted their rom com during the romcomorama posting period, June 14 - August 14. All these fabulous stories are listed below the Master List cut.

We encourage you to add your stories to the romcomorama collection at the AO3, if you've posted over there.

For those who have not finished, fret not! Today we start the amnesty period, which lasts until January 31, 2012! You can post the story you signed up for, or a story you didn't, or you can switch fandoms or movies or pairings or ratings. If you didn't sign up, you can grab any romcom you like and write it up and post here, and we'll make another master list on February 1, 2012, and you'll be on it.

There'll be a dead dog poll, too - I realize we've been absentee mods (I've been writing 100,000 words this summer, and not for this challenge, sadly), and we hope to change that in the future. Your suggestions welcome! (That'll go up later this week.)

For now, congratulate everyone who managed to get their stories in on the deadline. Well done!

Rating :T (but please take note of warnings)

Warnings : some violence and bullying, threatening behaviors and victimization of individuals for sexual orientation and just because someone was an outsider. . . References to death of a team of soldiers (non-canon characters) – this takes place before the story starts.

Author’s Note: The story started with the premise from ‘Pretty in Pink’ of someone from one social group liking a person from another social group and there being ‘issues’ in dealing with that dynamic and the fact that not everyone truly fits in the group in which they find themselves.

Disclaimer: All publicly recognizable characters, settings, etc. are the property of their respective owners. The original characters and plot are the property of the author. No money is being made from this work. No copyright infringement is intended.

Author’s Thanks : I have a special group of friends who have all helped tremendously with making sure that I tackle as many of my own writing fails as possible – typos, consistency, American v Brit language, continuity. Without them this story would not be what it is today – that said, errors are all mine. Thank you to all of them for their help, their support and guidance.

Summary : Clay's team of Losers can't hold on to a sniper if their tech's life depended on it, which it often seems to do. Carlos Alvarez can't find a team in which he isn't the outcast. Maybe it's just a matter of finding out where he belongs.

This is just opening day, folks, so don't stress. If you're still writing, you've got two months to get your story in (by August 14) on time. Yay rom coms!

Remember, you can start posting fic starting June 14th! You can post the fic anywhere you like and link to it here (or post it here, if you prefer). If you post to the AO3, please consider putting your story in the romcomorama collection.

Headers are at your discretion. Here is a template to play around with if you'd like one of those.

If you want to post a preview, please do, you can do that today, if you want. Anything goes with regard to those.

The posting period is June 14 to August 14, so don't freak out if you (like me!) haven't finished writing yet. You've still got two months to post during the regular posting period. (And another six months to post during amnesty, if you don't make that. If you don't make that, you can always sign up for next year again! We're really low stress around here.)

Questions? Comment here or at the questions post, send us a PM on Dreamwidth or Livejournal, or email a mod at our usernames at gmail. Remember - we're not big on rules. This story was supposed to be an undermistletoe entry, but I only finished the art on time. When this challenge came up, it seemed logical to grab the prompt.

What's a preview? Well... you could give us a picspam dramatis personæ, or an overview of the original movie with clips, or a transcript of a scene from the movie and the same scene from your story. If you can think it up, you can post it (right to the comm). Claiming has ended! If you would like to write a romcom, go ahead, we just won't include it on our masterlist until amnesty starts (August 14).

Everyone who claimed a romcom, you're on your way! Posting begins June 14, masterlist goes up August 14, and if you're interested in doing a preview for your story (of just about any sort you can imagine), you can do that from May 14 - June 13.

Discussion post for all your woes (and not-so-woes). Tracking is the way to go if you want to keep up on it.

LAST DAY FOR SIGNUPS!

Today is the last day - I will honor all comers until I get into the office tomorrow morning and put up a post saying 'DONE' - so until approximately 10am EST tomorrow.

Time to get those last minute claims in! Time to cajole your friends and/or favorite authors to play along! Time to post a banner and call to arms!

The prompts post is still open; if the movie you want to do is not on there, please go and put a comment on. I will put it on the list and you can claim it.

The claims post is also open to all and sundry - claim your second or third or ninth movie (or your first!) while you still can - we've got over 30 fandoms and almost 70 sign-ups already, but we're looking for more!

A few notes:

The prompts post is not closed; if the movie you want to do is not on there, please go and put a comment on. I will put it on the list and you can claim it.

The claims post is now open for people who have already signed up to claim additional movies.

If you haven't yet, please consider advertising this in your journal or fannish communities. I've done some that I know about, but certainly not all (Inception or Hawaii 5-0 fandoms? small fandoms?), and while we have 53 sign-ups so far, we'd love to have even more. Grab a banner here.

There's a discussion post for anything having to do with writing for the fest. Frustration, questions, rambling, feel free to post about it in the comments here. You might want to track it, if you're interested in keeping up with what people are doing.

So, lemposoi asked if there was a place to discuss one's stories and the challenges inherent in adapting a romantic comedy to fandom, and there wasn't yet. But there is now!
